We are Phantom Phunk
Phantom Phunk is a science lab experiment gone wrong. It’s not a chemical concoction that has been precisely mixed. It’s more like a Frankenstein of hacked pieces somehow coming together to make something unique. Each member has their own shape and style, yet they connect just enough to make music that is enticing and thoughtful. Sounds stitch together bumping beats and psychedelic undertones. Vocals oscillate between rap and soul. The tones collect into something unexpected, but still memorable… Songs that catch you in a time, a place, a moment for wonder of what might just happen next.

The blend of alt-rock and hip-hop gives the group a
progressive sound comparable to the Gorillaz & Outkast
Yayo is a dark alleyway filled with the unexpected. A low-lying bassline that slowly crawls along the unlit floor counterbalances the synth pattern which feels on edge and on watch, anticipating the unforeseen. Sharp contrasts between elements are a defining feature to this piece. Occasionally gunshot samples burst onto the scene, only to be followed shortly by the laughter of children. The stylish tackiness, mixed with the contemporary swag gives this track a Tarantino vibe, integrating spaghetti western tropes with violent change ups in flow and narrative. The song feels like a drunken joy ride from start to end filled with curious samples, clever flows, and above all, style.

Phantom Phunk defies all boundaries and genres. The Floridian five piece have come together to form a sonically diverse and transcendent sound, reminiscent of the early days of Gorrilaz but with a more modern, crisper edge.
Dark and mysterious from the off, Phantom Phunk takes on a whole new meaning to the genre of hip-hop. This group hailing from Florida depicts a fine notion of taking one style of music and completely turning it on it’s head.
Having formed a firm and exciting reputation for distinctively hard and pulsing production of late, Florida-based collective Phantom Phunk are back to their usual ways once again as they drop the pounding new single ‘Yayo’. Jam-packed with heavy beats and killer flows from start to finish, these guys have a sound that is simply too good to ignore.
Phantom Phunk typify the modern day breed of creatives. This five-piece aren’t your usual customers, and mix together a batch of genres spanning from hip-hop to indie – yes, you read that right – and they deliver this in spades in their new single ‘Yayo‘. It’s brave and extraordinary from this group, as the starts with a combination of samples that sound like they’re straight out of an action movie, before transforming into a whole other animal entirely.
‘Yayo’ is packed full of heavy, wurling synths and basslines, melodic flow and an energy that is undeniable. There’s a constant sense of chaos and intrigue, which is what makes this collective so interesting and vibrant. They say the track is about a ‘A high stakes game of life or death’, and you can certainly hear at the forefront of the song from the off. It’s almost like the title track to a Tarantino movie, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the last second.
